I am sure you guys have heard of the magnitude 7.1 earthquake that hit the Canterbury area of New Zealand on the 4 September.

My thoughts go out to all the young naturists who may have been caught up in the quake.

Yep, we were thinking of you guys in New Zealand, as well;  we understand the damage was relatively mild, compared to what had happened in Haiti earlier this year, due to strict building regulations etc.  CC, were you in NZ  when the earthquake hit, and if yes, how far from the epicenter?  We here in CA have been thru a couple of mid-size quakes, just waiting for the  BIG  ONE   banghead.  Btw., how many YNAI-members live in New Zealand, 4, 5?  Would be interesting if some of you post a report on your experience.  Aaron

I was certainly in NZ, 500 km from the epicentre. I felt a fair amount of shaking but no damage. I live in the southern half of the South Island.  The quake was felt all over the South Island and over the southern North Island.

There are 3 other YNAI members from NZ that I know of. Interesting to know if the quake affected them.

There has been another quake, this one measuring 6.3 on the Richter Scale much closer to Christchurch with much worse damage and a number of fatalities. There will be more info posted soon.

Big news, and one bit of news that really stunned me.  Normally quakes don't shock me this much, but having visited Christchurch a few years ago i became fond of the place and to see the damage on the news over here just shocks me.  The hostel i stayed in has been demolished and the iconic Cathedral has received some significant damage.

Such a sad bit of news.
